Lastly, you could always order flowers or balloons and send to your recent nursing school graduate as a gift, and this will be a great way to show them you care. I listed this one last because, although it is very thoughtful and creative, flowers quickly die and balloons deflate. But it is still a wonderful option if you can’t think of anything else, and some people LOVE flowers, while others are more practical and would prefer to have a gift that will last more than a day or so.
When my parents asked me what I wanted for my nursing school graduation gift, I asked for a gift card to a scrub shop!  Most new nurses don’t have a lot of scrubs already–they may only have the scrubs with their school’s emblem stitched on.  So the gift of new scrubs is a very practical option!  I love Lydia’s Scrubs for their wide selection and reasonable prices, and it’s easy to order online. The bigwigs where she works are sure to be planning to mark the occasion with a medal, plaque, or some other gift that acknowledges her years of service and commitment to the profession. Friends, family and colleagues can take the opportunity to create a more personalized memory of her caring career. A few weeks before her last day speak with as many people as possible and ask them to provide a story, message, poem, drawing or sentimental memento to put in a scrapbook. If there is enough time, you could make some recordings, using a smartphone or camcorder. Interview some of her colleagues, friends, patients, and family and put them all together in a home video. When she misses her life before retirement, there will be a long lasting reminder she can replay.
Nurses play an important part in many people’s lives. And that goes for family and friends, as well as for patients. The work that a nurse does is admirable, and they can always be relied on for compassion and respect. When it comes time for a nurse to retire there will be a lot of people queuing up to wish them all the best. Co-workers, current and former patients, as well as friends and family, will all want to mark the event in a special way.

Every single handmade ERKA stethoscope is a unique masterpiece: elaborately polished and chrome plated by a master craftsman. If you’re standing for more than 6 hours per day, your legs and feet undergo a lot of physical stress. Compression socks help alleviate the strain, prevent you from swelling up and keep from blood collecting in the lower extremities. We recommend compression socks by Nurse Mates, which come in a variety of styles including Cause for a Cure, a great way for a nurse to show her moral support.
One of the reasons I bought these is another reviewer said the toes were loose, which was exactly what I needed. My second toe is the same length as my big toe and most socks Cause pressure and a sore nail. These socks fit loose on the end of my toe and are snug the rest of the way up my leg and so I am thrilled. They are warm which is great for winter but I doubt if I’ll wear them in the summertime. Although I have some lovely colorful ones for summer,
After taking finals and graduating, the recent grad will likely have a lot of stress and tension built up. You could always buy them a day of relaxation. You could contact local spas, or treat them to manicure or whatever else you think they’d enjoy. Also, since they may be doing a lot of job interviews, you could always schedule them to get their hair done, and other beauty pampering. Of course, this not only applies to female grads—males would still enjoy a nice massage. ">

Becoming Nursey by Katie Kleber, BSN, RN is a must-read for nursing students, new nurses, and those nurses who need to be inspired by that new-nurse feeling that they had in the past. Miss Kleber, also known as Nurse Eye Roll, is someone I’d like to work with! You can tell from the personal experiences that she shares in the book that she is a team player, organized, and compassionate and respectful to patients, their families and caregivers, as well as her colleagues in nursing and other disciplines. The discussion on time management is spot-on. Another favorite aspect of this book is how Miss Kleber keys in on preventing medication errors, and the importance of owning them so that we can learn from them. Consider Becoming Nursey as a gift for nursing students and new nurses – they’ll definitely relate to Nurse Eye Roll’s experiences and benefit from her advice.

This film…I could watch it over and over again! This is truly a treasure for the nursing profession. In the American Nurse Project, the director, Carolyn Jones, captures the passion of several nurses as she shares their unique stories. This year, at Nursing Management Congress, I actually got to meet Miss Jones, which was such a highlight for me. The book is on my wish list this December – I’ll keep you posted if I receive it! Think about sharing this film with all nurses who are passionate about the care they provide and the people they touch. ">

In reference to the above post about purchasing the review of her choice, probably the best one I found--and I looked at a lot!--also turned out to be about the least expensive. Google for [Mosby CAT NCLEX RN online] (minus the brackets or course) and then scroll down to where they have the online version. No waiting, $40 plus tax, unlimited uses for 30 days and it behaves just like the NCLEX. I used it for 2-1/2 weeks, did something like 6 of the tests (intending to do many more, of course), and I breezed through boards.
