I think it enstills a new appreciation. ">
A patient to keep alive: a house plant. Countless studies have proven that having plants in the home leads to a healthier lifestyle. If your nurse doesn't have a green thumb to speak of, gift a plant that's easy to take care of, like aloe or bamboo (aloe even has healing properties). As the plant grows, your nurse will fondly remember its significance and appreciate its beauty.

There are even gift subscription boxes for things like candles and tea, allowing you to make relaxation a monthly present. Help your nurse’s home become a retreat after a long day spent selflessly serving others.

This film…I could watch it over and over again! This is truly a treasure for the nursing profession. In the American Nurse Project, the director, Carolyn Jones, captures the passion of several nurses as she shares their unique stories. This year, at Nursing Management Congress, I actually got to meet Miss Jones, which was such a highlight for me. The book is on my wish list this December – I’ll keep you posted if I receive it! Think about sharing this film with all nurses who are passionate about the care they provide and the people they touch.

We touched on the importance of nurses taking care of their feet a bit earlier, and while compression socks can help, nothing plays a bigger role in protecting your feet than shoes do. Obviously, different nurses prefer different styles. Some prefer athletic shoes they can tie, while others prefer something more along the lines of slip-ons and clogs. This is entirely a matter of opinion, but for our money, we have found Dankso to be the most desirable footwear brand for nurses. Their combination of comfort, support, and style is tough to beat. If you want to get a nurse a pair of shoes they will really appreciate, look no further than Dansko. ">

Nurses are on their feet for hours at a time, so it’s understandable why so many of them are rather picky when it comes to finding shoes that are comfortable and good for their feet. Yet for some reason, many of them could care less what socks they wear. Compression socks have always been great for reducing soreness and swelling, but they haven’t always been the most stylish. That’s not the case with these fun, EKG-themed socks. This is a gift that not only looks good, but it will do wonders for their feet. They’ll definitely thank you for this one.

The best retirement gift will depend on the recipient's interests and personality as well as your relationship. You might look for a keepsake or ornament, or a book that offers personal, legal or financial guidance on navigating the next stage of their life. Another approach is to buy them something they can use for a hobby or interest they'll now have more time for, such as golf. Movies also make great retirement gifts. ">

Becoming Nursey by Katie Kleber, BSN, RN is a must-read for nursing students, new nurses, and those nurses who need to be inspired by that new-nurse feeling that they had in the past. Miss Kleber, also known as Nurse Eye Roll, is someone I’d like to work with! You can tell from the personal experiences that she shares in the book that she is a team player, organized, and compassionate and respectful to patients, their families and caregivers, as well as her colleagues in nursing and other disciplines. The discussion on time management is spot-on. Another favorite aspect of this book is how Miss Kleber keys in on preventing medication errors, and the importance of owning them so that we can learn from them. Consider Becoming Nursey as a gift for nursing students and new nurses – they’ll definitely relate to Nurse Eye Roll’s experiences and benefit from her advice. ">

A keepsake box. A nurse’s job is full of ups and downs. Why not provide something to remember the ups? A simple box filled with encouraging notes from family and friends can go a long way in cheering someone up. Even better, nurses often get cards and letters from patients that they’ve helped. They can continue to store happy notes in this box, making it the gift that keeps on giving. Provide the nurse in your life with a box filled with positive and heartwarming messages that she can open after a long, stressful day. Here is one of our favorites, we especially love the quote!

Another idea is to simply create a “grab bag” of goodies for the nursing grad. There are so many nursing supplies you could possibly get for recent nurse graduates, and so I’ll just list some of the most common you may want to buy. Of course, it goes without saying that you’ll definitely want to make sure they don’t already have the item you want to buy.

There's books designed especially for the new nurse, quick reference guides and such: maybe a gift certificate to a large bookstore with a card that tells her to buy such a book for herself? Better than choosing the wrong one, and I love when someone has thought enough to tell me that's what they want for me, and I should choose A friend did that for me specifically for NON-nursing books: she said I had spent so long staring at textbooks, the Barnes and Noble giftcard was ONLY to be used on paperback fiction! Loved that.

On a nurse’s busiest days they can end up walking miles and miles—give them the gift of being able to track that exercise! In such a demanding career, it can be difficult to factor in time for working out but a wearable device such as FitBit allows you to track how much activity you have actually done during the day. It also tracks your sleep and lets the nurse in your life monitor their own health data and stay motivated with their health.
How 'bout for those tired of runnin' dogs of hers getting "broke in" to running on the floors as a new nurse? Try a foot bath/massager, easy to use, soooo soothing to those aching feet when she gets home from work! Add a pedicure kit to it containing reviving lotion for feet, callous pad, nail polish, toe separater to aid in keeping toes apart while painting toenails, that type of accessory in addition to the foot massager/foot bath itself. It is electric, just add water to a certain level, turn it on....ahhhh, instant blessed relief with heat, no less! ">

Jon Haws RN began his nursing career at a Level I Trauma ICU in DFW working as a code team nurse, charge nurse, and preceptor. Frustrated with the nursing education process, Jon started NRSNG in 2014 with a desire to provide tools and confidence to nursing students around the globe. When he's not busting out content for NRSNG, Jon enjoys spending time with his two kids and wife.
When my parents asked me what I wanted for my nursing school graduation gift, I asked for a gift card to a scrub shop!  Most new nurses don’t have a lot of scrubs already–they may only have the scrubs with their school’s emblem stitched on.  So the gift of new scrubs is a very practical option!  I love Lydia’s Scrubs for their wide selection and reasonable prices, and it’s easy to order online.
Now this is a subscription box we can get behind.  This one will be delivered once a season (just four times a year!) so she’ll really look forward to getting what’s inside! It comes with 8-10 full sized top-notch products in the fitness, health, beauty, and lifestyle categories that are valued at over $200.  We love that it’s not travel size stuff!  Learn more about your buying options here.
One of the reasons I bought these is another reviewer said the toes were loose, which was exactly what I needed. My second toe is the same length as my big toe and most socks Cause pressure and a sore nail. These socks fit loose on the end of my toe and are snug the rest of the way up my leg and so I am thrilled. They are warm which is great for winter but I doubt if I’ll wear them in the summertime. Although I have some lovely colorful ones for summer,
We are yet to find a water bottle or travel mug that matches up to a Hydro Flask. It can keep your water cold for up to 24 hours, and your coffee hot for up to 6 hours – that’s pretty tough to beat. Not to mention it’s very durable and safe, has several different caps that can be used, and does not present any condensation on the outside of the bottle. $28 may seem like a lot for a water bottle, but it’s worth every penny.
Acknowledge your nursing team's compassion and caring ways with appreciation gifts featuring exclusive motivational themes that beautifully express how wonderful and highly regarded nurses are, how it's in their nature to care, and that they are the heartbeat of healthcare. There are some gifts that are a little more universal. For example, any nurse would likely appreciate a thoughtful card and a nice double walled vacuum sealed mug. I mean, who doesn’t drink water? And even if they already have one, it’s always nice to have one you can keep at home and one you can take on the go. I have 3, myself. One of the office, one for the car, and one at home.

We first started using this when my daughter was 3 months old and around 12lbs. I had high hopes for this suit and was very disappointed when it didnt make a bit of difference to her sleep and I thought I'd wasted $40. My husband pointed out that it was huge on her and that it should prob be snug to make her feel like shes being held so I put it away and tried again a month later. At 4months and around 14lbs this suit helped somewhat with her sleep. Not a magic suit but still there was a marked improvement in her sleep on the nights she wore the suit. My daughter is now 5 months old and 16lbs and she sleeps great in this suit! Without the suit on she rolls on her stomach to sleep which worries me but in ... full review

For many years the newly retired nurse will have dedicated her life to caring for others. It’s about time she enjoyed a spot of pampering herself. Give her a gift voucher that can be exchanged for a massage, manicure, pedicure, or hair style. She could use it for a reflexology session, day at her local spa, Reiki session, or a makeover. If there are a few people that are willing to pool finances, you might be able to treat her to a weekend away.
